Title: Between Glances Artist: Bob Dornberg Medium: Oil on canvas Size: 16 x 20 inches (framed) Catalog Number: PZ6 Interpretation / Story Between Glances captures a fleeting, emotionally charged moment—three figures occupying the same space but not the same inner world. The figures are loosely defined, their faces softened and partially abstracted, as if remembered rather than directly observed. Warm yellows and ochres dominate the scene, interrupted by greens and reds that suggest tension, connection, and distance all at once. The foreground figure turns inward, contemplative, while the central figure stands more firmly—anchored, perhaps confronting something unseen. The third presence, slightly obscured, feels transitional, like someone entering or exiting a conversation. Dornberg’s expressive brushwork and layered color give the painting a sense of movement, as though the scene exists just before or just after an important exchange. Rather than telling a fixed story, the painting invites the viewer to project their own narrative—memory, separation, reconciliation, or quiet intimacy. It is a piece about proximity without certainty, connection without resolution. ⸻
Artist Statement
“My work is less about depicting people or places and more about emotional presence. I’m interested in what happens between moments—what’s implied rather than stated. I paint intuitively, allowing color and gesture to guide the composition until the relationships within the painting feel honest. The figures often come from memory, not observation, and remain intentionally unresolved.” ⸻
